Team Collaboration

Roles, groups, and permissions

Roles (PI, Postdoc, PhD, Tech, Auditor) with per-role permissions, project teams, and SSO with SAML and SCIM on the University plan.

What it does

Built for the way labs actually run

Every lab member has a role — PI, Postdoc, PhD, Tech, Auditor — and every role carries a set of permissions. PIs can sign off experiments and approve purchase orders. Postdocs can run experiments and witness notebook entries. PhDs can run experiments and write notebook entries. Techs can manage samples and inventory. Auditors have read-only access to the audit log.

Group members into project teams and scope permissions by experiment, protocol, or storage location. Custom roles are supported for labs that need finer-grained access control. On the University plan, SSO with SAML and SCIM provisioning lets you integrate ResearchLab with your institutional identity provider, so access is granted and revoked automatically as people join and leave.

How it works

Three steps from setup to sign-off

1

Invite and assign roles

Invite lab members and assign each a role. Permissions are applied automatically.

2

Group into teams

Group members into project teams. Scope permissions by experiment, protocol, or storage.

3

Integrate with SSO

On University plan, connect SAML and SCIM so access follows your identity provider.

Why it matters

Benefits that compound

  • Roles: PI, Postdoc, PhD, Tech, Auditor — and custom roles
  • Per-role permissions for sign-off, witnessing, and approvals
  • Group members into project teams
  • SSO with SAML and SCIM on University plan
