E-signatures are the signed approval mechanism for regulated workflows in ResearchLab. Sign a notebook entry to witness it. Sign off an experiment to mark it Complete. Approve a purchase order to release it. Every signature requires multi-factor authentication — something you know (password) plus something you have (a time-based one-time code).
Every signature includes non-repudiation — a cryptographic record that proves who signed, when they signed, and what they signed. A signer cannot later deny having signed. The signature is captured in the audit log alongside the before-and-after state of the record. Signature rules are configurable by role, so only authorized roles can sign specific record types.
Three steps from setup to sign-off
Request a signature
When an action requires a signature, ResearchLab prompts the authorized signer.
Authenticate multi-factor
The signer enters their password plus a time-based one-time code from their authenticator.
Sign and record
The signature is captured with non-repudiation and logged in the audit trail.
