Auto-References

Citations that stay in sync, always

Auto-References syncs your in-text citations to your bibliography in APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, or IEEE — and keeps them aligned as you edit.

What it does

Built for the way research actually happens

Auto-References is the Editing Agent tool that handles the most tedious part of academic writing: keeping your in-text citations and your bibliography aligned. Insert a new citation in the body and it appears in the bibliography. Reorder chapters and the numbering updates. Rename an author and every reference to that author updates with it.

It supports five citation styles out of the box: APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, and IEEE. Switch styles with one tap and the entire document reformats. Custom styles are available on the Researcher plan for institution-specific formatting rules.

How it works

Three steps, every time

  1. 01

    Pick your style

Choose APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, or IEEE — or set a custom style on Researcher.

  2. 02

    Write and insert

Insert citations as you write; the bibliography updates in real time.

  3. 03

    Edit freely

Reorder, rename, renumber — the references stay in sync automatically.
